The Volkswagen Passat CC is a four-door coupé version of the Volkswagen Passat. It debuted in January 2008 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The suffix CC stands for Comfort Coupé and the car is marketed by VW as a more luxurious vehicle than the standard Passat saloon. The Passat CC falls between the Passat and the Phaeton in VW's range, while based on the Passat, and sharing its wheelbase, the CC is 27 mm longer, 50 mm lower, and 36 mm wider than the Passat.
Volkswagen has ambitions of selling 300,000 units over a period of seven years. The company expects that 60% of these sales will come from the US market. In China, the CC was released by FAW-VW on July 15, 2010, and is available in 1.8TSI and 2.0TSI trims. he North American market will receive the 2.0T and 3.6 L VR6 engine options. This version of the VR6 engine offers an output of 206 kW and 265 lb·ft of torque available in both front-wheel-drive and 4MOTION versions, while the 2.0T produces 200 hp. Manual transmission is available in the 2.0T engine option only.
On the European market the CC is offered with 4MOTION four-wheel drive on the 2.0-litre TDI engines. The 103 kW model comes with manual transmission and the 125 kW model with Direct-Shift Gearbox. An AdBlue version offering 105 kW name BlueTDI is also produced. Availability varies by country.
For model year 2011 the 2.0T in Europe was upgraded to 155 kW thereby using the engine variant introduced in the Golf VI GTI. A facelift to the CC was presented at the Los Angeles auto show for production to start in January 2012. The front and rear are heavily revised to align the CC to the current Volkswagen design, whereas the mid section is unchanged. Interior changes include a minor design change to the center console is made where the updates ACC controls is the most easily distinguishable feature. This new design is also used in the Passat Alltrack.
European engine options remain the same as for the 2011 Passat CC although initially no AWD diesel was announced leaving only the V6 as an AWD alternative. As in North America, the Passat CC will from the 2012 face-lift drop the Passat name in Europe and be called Volkswagen CC. The XDS electronic differential brake also used in the Golf GTI will be available as standard and optional equipment.
