The new model, the new Toyota HiLux 2012 – which will be sold locally in Australia – has also been confirmed to have a similar design to the HiLux Vigo – the special design for sale in Thailand. The new vehicle has similar headlights to the LandCruiser 200 Series, bolder and squarer headlights, while the grille adopts a strong three-bar layout. It has a chunkier design for the lower bumper, bringing a solid stance to the HiLux. On the powering and transmission system aspect, the new Toyota HiLux 2012 doesn’t get a lot of changes that the new model of the upgraded HiLux range carries the current offerings. The HiLux range comes with three different engine options, including a 2.7 liter four-cylinder petrol – offering an output of 116 kW and 240 Nm –, a 3.0 liter four-cylinder diesel that produces a power of 126 kW and 343 Nm, and a 4.0 liter V6 petrol engine, producing 175 kW and 376 Nm that comes as the benchmark.
Although there has not yet been a confirmation from Toyota, the new HiLux 2012 models are guessed to be featured with electronic stability control (ESC) as the standard, coming after the lead of the Volkswagen Amarok. The new HiLux comes as the most popular light commercial vehicle in Australia and this year, it is the third most popular vehicle overall after the Holden Commodore and the Mazda 3. The new Toyota HiLux 2012 has a 24.6 percent share of the 4×2 pick-up/cab-chassis segment and 27.1 percent of the 4×4 pick-up/cab-chassis segment.
