2013 Ferrari 458 Spider Green

2013 Ferrari 458 Spider joins the 458 Italia, widening the range of Ferrari’s mid-rear engined V8s and offering the same uncompromising technological solutions, handling and performance in a refined open-top configuration. It is equipped with a Ferrari patented, fully retractable hard top, a world first for a sports car with this lay-out.

2013 Ferrari 458 Spider is powered by Ferrari’s 570 CV 4,499 cc V8 which was named International Engine of the Year 2011. The power is transferred to the road by Ferrari’s class-leading dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission through the sophisticated E-Diff, itself integrated with the F1-Trac traction control and high-performance ABS for maximum handling dynamics. The car delivers 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in under 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h.

Ferrari doesn't make motorcycles. At least, not officially... but that fact hasn't stopped a number of custom cycle makers from taking matters into their own hands. Perhaps the most famous Maranello-inspired two-wheeler was made by Arlen Ness, but that one's not all that practical in conception. We would imagine a Ferrari motorcycle to be a truly sporting machine, equally as comfortable on the race track as the street, or, more realistically, being shown off in one's garage. Ferrari seems to agree, as the only cycle ever created that bears an official Ferrari chassis number SF-01M has true sporting pretensions.

Built by David Kay Engineering and completed in 1995, this one-and-only Ferrari motorcycle sports a DOHC engine displacing 900cc and putting out 105 horsepower at 8,800rpm. The only styling choice we take exception with are the Testarossa-style strakes on either side, but nothing's perfect, right? So, what's the only officially official Ferrari bike worth? We'll find out for sure when the auction ends on the 20th, but the expected price is between 325,000-375,000 Swiss francs, or around $300K in U.S. dollars.

The sensitive task facing us when choosing to work on 360 Modena was whether we could put our own spice on the world’s most complete design, which was Pininfarina and whether we could improve functional-wise what Ferrari’s craftsmanship mastered in ground effect. JNH’s long standing policy is not to work on anything if it’s only for dress-up purpose. Our motto is to use our magic to better the original design and function. We have conducted numerous testing with stock car and what we witnessed there was disturbing. In 6th gear and extremely high speed situation, front under cover for which our modeler has nothing but praise was ripped apart and the fear of front lift ran through test drivers mind.

Extensive testing led us to this conclusion: 360 Modena is better left as it is. What we should do is respect the stock body and refine it JNH way. Utilizing Venturi Tunnela and respecting Pininfarina design, specially on the side view. What JNH proudly presents are: Front canard that’ll be separately installed, Splitter which looks perfect on smooth side view and Rear under diffuser that effectively handle air from the bottom of body.

Anderson Germany has presented the Ferrari 458 Black Carbon Edition. Anderson modification is to show that other colors can go well with the typically red Italian car. The tuner confirms that it is by no means the Ferrari goes with “wrong” color, but to be one of the aforementioned and admittedly rare examples. Anderson Germany starts its makeover with the exceptional externally visible modifications which include installation of a phenomenal sport hood and carbon air intakes. These air intakes have built-in water drainage, so that the front trunk of the Ferrari 458 is really dry. Windows and lights were subjected to special tinting. Next, it is the Anderson carbon exterior package, consisting of wings in the front apron, a rear diffuser and wing mirrors as well as engine covers (invisible). Among other things are the in-house 21-inch carbon rims painted in body color with 245 tires at the front axle and 345 at the rear. The yellow brake caliper paint undoubtedly strikes the eye.

After the exterior, the Dusseldorf tuner goes to the interior with the refinement of covers air intakes, center console, door handles, door sills, a steering wheel, a tachometer border, shift paddles, and seat adjustment handles. The black color with carbon leather interior was combined with black Alcantara and diamond seams is almost obvious. Sound system is refined too. Due to a software optimization and an exhaust system with special manifolds and Rennkats, Anderson Germany provide the Ferrari an impressive performance increase from 570 to 623 hp now and a torque increase to 96 Nm. The exhaust system’s sound is reminiscent of the Formula 1 and can save 18 kg and has an exhaust path with a remote-controlled valve adjusting system with three different levels of noise.

While it’s true that every Ferrari is innovative by definition, it’s equally true that in the course of the Prancing Horse’s history, certain cars have marked a genuine departure from the current range. This is very much the case with the Ferrari 458 Italia, which is a massive leap forward from the company’s previous mid-rear engined sports cars. The same ECU also governs the high-performance ABS, providing even more precise control over the logic threshold and greater efficiency. The brakes also feature a prefill function whereby the pistons in the callipers move the pads into contact with the discs on lift off to minimise delay in the brakes being applied. This combined with the ABS has cut the 100-0 km/h braking distance to a mere 32.5 metres.
